Des Moines-West Des Moines Metro Area in Top Ten Best Places For Young Professionals To Live In The U.S. In 2024

The Des Moines-West Des Moines Metro Area has been named by Forbes as one of the five best places for young professionals to live in the United States.
From Forbes: "You can find many budget-friendly housing options in this metro, which is ranked eighth-lowest for median rent as a percentage of the median individual income. The average rental in Des Moines costs $1,057 per month. And if you’re ready to settle down, this metropolitan area makes home ownership achievable. It has the 17th-lowest median home ownership costs as a percentage of income (24.72%)."
In determining the top cities for young professionals to live and work, Forbes considered twelve metrics over four key categories: employment and pay, cost of living, housing, and lifestyle. Each category is measured on a scale of 0-100.
The Des Moines-West Des Moines Metro Area ranked second with an overall score of 99.43.
