Belin attorneys Aaron Jones and Ame Mapes, two of the Iowa Mock Trial Committee Co-Chairs who help oversee the state's mock trial program, led the way to secure the bid for Iowa to host the popular high school extracurricular's national championship in May 2026.

In 1984, the prestigious event was first held in Iowa, at Drake University. Since then, it has become an annual competition where roughly fifty teams from across the country fight for the coveted national title. The tournament is held in a different host city every year and after four decades, it is coming back to the place where it all started.

From the Iowa State Bar Association: "At the heart of the mock trial program is the opportunity to introduce students to the legal system through challenging real-world-modeled case materials presented in an educational competition. By emphasizing the importance of public speaking, critical thinking, and teamwork, the program offers participating students an invaluable platform for personal growth and achievement. Moreover, mock trial cultivates a deep understanding of contemporary public issues and the legal system, empowering students with the knowledge and skills necessary to become informed and engaged citizens."
